Discover how famed novelist, journalist and social critic Charles Dickens shaped the way we celebrate Christmas.
About this Event

In this festive lunchtime talk, curator Kirsty Parsons from the Charles Dickens Museum will explore why this famous Victorian writer is so closely associated with the festive season.

Learn how Dickens’ views on tradition and community were heavily shaped by the changes taking place in Victorian society and discover how he continues to influence our experience of Christmas in the twenty-first century.

This event is part of our monthly Lunchtime Talk series. On the second Wednesday of every month, join us at St Margaret’s Church for an in-depth exploration of part of the Abbey’s history.

About The Charles Dickens Museum

The Charles Dickens Museum was founded in 1925 and is the historic London home of the great writer. Dickens lived there between 1837 and 1839, during which time he first gained international fame as he penned stories such as 'The Pickwick Papers,' 'Oliver Twist,' and 'Nicholas Nickleby.' The collection consists of over 100,000 items including books, manuscripts, letters, clothing, furniture, personal effects and so much more.
