Biographies:
Sophie Baxter is a cellist originally from Lincolnshire, currently studying a master’s degree in performance at Trinity Laban with David Cohen and Sally Pendlebury. She is generously supported by the Joan Greenfield Scholarship, Trinity College London Scholarship, the Kochan Trust, and the Colin Blythe bursary.
Sophie is a committed chamber musician, having previously performed at Wigmore Hall with her clarinet quintet and piano trio, and at the British Isles Music Festival.
She has previously been mentored by the London Symphony Orchestra and the orchestra of the Royal Opera House, and has worked with conductors including Antonio Pappano, Jakub Hrůša and Koen Kessels.
Sophie has previously worked as a graduate assistant at two of the UK’s leading specialist music schools; Wells Cathedral School and the Purcell School. She studied music at Durham University, and has a PGCE in group instrumental teaching awarded by the London based charity ‘Music Masters’. She currently teaches at Blackheath Conservatoire and JASSPA in Dulwich alongside her studies.
Miaoyan Li was born and raised in China and is currently in her second year of Masters study at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She has been playing the piano since the age of four, and before coming to the UK, she studied piano with Jingqi Li in Steinway partnered piano studios in Shanghai. After graduation from Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University with a Bachelor’s degree in biology, she decided to switch to the pathway of becoming a professional musician.
After completing her Graduate diploma at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2022, and Professional Diploma with Distinction Awards in 2023, She progressed to the Master of Music course and have been under the tutelage of esteemed mentor Deniz Arman Gelenbe. Miaoyan has studied improvisation, and was an active participating in Trinity Laban’s contemporary piano festival, New Lights Festival. As a chamber musician she works with a number of groups, including with violinist Grace Byrne, and a member of the Mellifluous Ensemble alongside sopranos Mandy Ching Man Liu and Olivia Thomas.
