JOE STEELS GROUP
An accomplished composer, embracing the tradition with an ear open to current developments, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire graduate Joe Steels takes inspiration from numerous fellow guitarists, including the late, great Grant Green, John Scofield and Mike Walker. As a Tyne Valley resident, the landscapes of Cumbria and Northumberland inform Joe’s melodic sensibility, colouring his musical palette.
Joe appears nationwide at jazz clubs and festivals, working alongside numerous established musicians, including Andy Panayi, Ross Stanley and Arnie Somogyi.
A Blue Patch is Joe’s latest album and this Lit & Phil concert will feature several compositions from the recording.
The (all-star) Joe Steels Group comprises Joe (guitar), Ben Lawrence (piano), Andy Champion (double bass) and John Hirst (drums).
