On Wednesday, April 29, Lunchmeat Festival welcomes critically acclaimed vocalist, producer, and performance artist Lyra Pramuk to present her sophomore album, Hymnal (pop.soil), within the majestic walls of the 17th-century church in the center of Prague, U Salvátora. ꧁⎝ 𓆩༺✧༻𓆪 ⎠꧂
Drawing from her classical training and shaped by Berlin's club scene, Pramuk has cultivated a genre-fluid body of work that embraces an experimental approach to earthy, leaping vocals and left-field electronics. Infusing her music with a pop sensibility, Pramuk shapes her shows into collective rituals.
Throughout her career, she collaborated with Holly Herndon, Caterina Barbieri, Colin Self and Ben Frost, while her debut album, Fountain, has been remixed by talents including KMRU, Eris Drew, Hudson Mohawke, and Gabber Modus Operandi.
Her debut album was entirely vocals; Hymnal introduces language to it. The slime mold traces its way through the poems of Nadia Marcus, growing over a mapped arrangement of poetic fragments. Strings, recorded by Berlin's Sonar Quartett intertwine with samples of Pramuk’s voice, meticulously manipulated using a CDJ to create a rich and dynamic soundscape. Conceptually driven and process-oriented, Hymnal unfolds as a personal collection of worship songs dedicated to the Earth, the cosmos, and all life forms - living and departed.
