About this Event

On a crisp autumn day in 1593, botanist Carolus Clusius planted tulip bulbs in the gardens of the University of Leiden, an act that would help spark one of history’s most fascinating economic and cultural phenomena. Join Christina Basler, Director of Guest Services and Group Programs, as she discusses the tulip phenomenon of the early 17th century. How did one flower blossom to a mania so big that people were buying tulips even before they bloomed and growers were sleeping with their bulbs? Finally, when did this bubble burst?
