Join us at the Museum of Chinese in America for an auspicious Lunar New Year Mixer as we celebrate the enigmatic and elegant Year of the Snake. Taking place on the Lantern Festival and near Valentine’s Day, this event is the perfect opportunity to gather friends and enjoy an evening of culture and community.

The evening will feature mahjong games—expert instructor Sokie Lee will guide participants through Chinese Mahjong, while Beverly Hershkowitz will lead the American Mahjong sessions. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, these interactive games offer an engaging way to connect with others and enjoy the festive spirit. Adding to the lively atmosphere, DJ Dizparity will bring the night alive with electrifying beats and vibrant music.

Dive into the rich history and enduring legacy of this beloved game by exploring a special Discover Mahjong showcase presented by Mahjong West Media. Learn about its origins in China and its rise to popularity in the U.S., discover the diverse gameplay variations, and connect with stories of players through curated portraits from across the nation, including our Big Apple players. Gain insight into the top reasons people play—from fostering community to promoting brain health—and enjoy video tutorials that celebrate Hong Kong artisans preserving the art of hand-carved tiles.

A variety of snacks and beverages will be served throughout the evening. Whether you’re reconnecting with your heritage, exploring new cultural experiences, or simply looking for a unique way to celebrate, MOCA’s Lunar New Year Mixer promises an unforgettable evening of joy and celebration.
