Local artist Rod Kitson will be running brilliantly inspiring weekly art classes for children in The Plant Pavilion. you can expect specially devised art projects for children ), this is the perfect way to enjoy some creative fun this summer in London.
Wednesday 31 July - Wednesday 23rd August - Crafty beasts
Using the garden setting as inspiration to create creepy-crawly models from coloured cardboard and glue.
Wednesday 7 August - Animal Magic
Creating a mash-up of different animals with magic sketchbook. We will sketch 4-5 different animals in our sketchbooks, before cutting each page into three equal sections but leaving the spine in tact. In this way, the heads, bodies and legs of each animal can be turned separately, allowing new creatures to be created by moving the parts of each page.
Wednesday 14 August - Crafty garden
Using the gazebo garden as inspiration, we will create our own plant life from coloured card, glue and staples, complete with plant pots and maybe even a creepy crawly or two.
Wednesday 21 August - Cartoon mash-up
Creating a mash-up of favourite cartoon characters, super heroes and book illustrations by drawing a different one on each page, then cutting into three so that new figures can be created by turning the pages to reveal different heads, bodies and legs.
Children must be accompanies by an adult at all time.
About Rod Kitson
Rod is an artist living and working in London. His work focuses on the act of making the art rather than aiming for perfect outcomes. In 2020, he hosted three hugely successful art projects at his pop-up gallery-shop and has created Classes of 2020 and 2021 showing group exhibitions at Surrey Quays shopping centre.
