In the early Song dynasty, the realm was yet unsettled, and the Liao forces loomed menacingly to the north. To resist invasion, the She and Yang families pledged a marriage alliance to strengthen the frontier. What was meant as a grand strategy for the nation was soon undermined by secret intrigues from the Liao, giving rise to the conflict of “two betrothals for one groom” and sowing discord between two loyal houses.
On Matchmaker’s Slope their love was quietly pledged; at the Seven-Star Temple misunderstandings were finally resolved. Firm in heart and steadfast in spirit, She Saihua and Yang Jiye were ultimately united in marriage — true lovers destined to be together.
This episode became the prelude to the legendary saga of the Yang Family Generals. From that union arose generations of loyal heroes, defending the realm and writing a timeless chapter of devotion and righteousness.
