About this Event
The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail will be improving the new Long Bridge Connector Trail which connects to the Mount Vernon Trail in Arlington. We'll be removing invasive vegetation growing into the trail and trash. Anyone and everyone can volunteer. All ages are welcome!
Volunteers may perform some of the following work:
- Using pruners and loppers to cut vegetation
- Using hand saws to cut tree branches
- Hauling away vegetation and fallen tree branches
- Picking up trash
What to Bring:
- Water
- Gloves (We'll have some to borrow)
- Long sleeves and long pants (to prevent poison ivy)

Where to Park:
Closest parking is at Columbia Island Marina located in Lady Bird Johnson Park. Parking is free for 2 hours.
Directions from parking lot to meeting spot:
If coming from the parking lot, follow the Mount Vernon Trail around the Navy Merchant Marine Memorial and cross Humpback Bridge. We will be meeting on the other side of the Humpback Bridge. Look for purple Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail signs.

It is approximately a 10min walk from the parking lot to the meeting spot. Please factor this into your travel time when coming to the event.
Restrooms:
Restrooms, water fountains, and trash cans are located in the parking lot near the Columbia Island Marina at Lady Bird Johnson Park.
COVID Safety Precautions:
- We follow current CDC guidance
- Work will be performed outside with room to socially distance
Group Volunteering:
We welcome groups to come volunteer at our events. If you plan on having more than 20 people come on a particular weekend, just let us know via email ([email protected]) no less than one week prior to the day of the event so we can better prepare supplies and promote your group’s attendance on social media.
