In 2019, LBO commissioned and premiered The Central Park Five opera by Anthony Davis. It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2020 — and that journey started here, in Long Beach. It’s one of the most important contemporary operas of our time.Now we’re producing the commercial recording so the work can live beyond the stage. The recording will allow us to reach new audiences, both nationally and internationally.
Our April 11 gala celebrates the ground-breaking work of LBO, and our commitment to commissioning and producing new works. At the gala, there will be performances from The Central Park Five original cast members and reflections from the composer, Anthony Davis, as well as a sneak peek into what’s next.
