LOCALS ONLY, our recurring screening of short films from Georgia’s independent filmmakers, brings a new flavor of locally-made cinema, with 3 events hitting the screen each year. Each event has a distinct theme and focus. Featured short films come entirely from submissions.
This summer, LOCALS ONLY Presents: WILD, WEIRD, WHATEVER.
Whether it’s a lawless Western reimagined, a dystopian fever dream, a midnight creature feature, or something that simply refuses to be categorized, we want the strange, the subversive, the unapologetically unconventional, and characters who exist outside polite society.
Outcasts. Drifters. Outlaws. Bandits. Mayhem. Sci-fi. The surreal and the absurd. [The X Files theme plays]
Selected films will screen at the event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 6th, 2026 at the Tara Theatre, and receive Official Selection laurels. Additionally, ALL submitting filmmakers will receive a waiver to submit their LOCALS ONLY entry to the next Atlanta Film Festival.
Submitted films must be primarily filmed in Georgia AND come from a director, writer, and/or producer who resides in the state of Georgia. Maximum runtime is 20 minutes.
Each selected film will receive 5 free tickets to attend the screening as well as two free tickets to the Tara Theatre ($30 value).
A Jury Award and an Audience Award will be given to winners chosen from the program films. Each will come with a $100 cash prize. Winning films will also receive winner laurels, 2 All-Access badges each to the next Atlanta Film Festival ($800+ value) and 2 Tara Theatre ticket/popcorn/drink combos ($54 value).
