About the exhibition

For decades the artist Barrie Cooke maintained a friendship with the poets Seamus Heaney and Ted Hughes. Firing the imagination of each, the bond was grounded in ancient landscapes, particularly of Ireland, a love of fishing, and the rising levels of pollution in the rivers and waters that inspired their creativity. 'Living Water' is an exhibition that explores the relationship between the three and will focus on the artistic and cultural circles in which they operated, how land, water and nature influenced their work and the creeping horror at the increasing pollution in the watercourses of Britain, Ireland and beyond.
