The 2026 Live in The Laurel concert series continues on Sunday, June 21, with an unforgettable evening of music featuring Orchestra Gold Unplugged at Degrees Plato Tap Room Bottle Shop & Kitchen (4251 MacArthur Blvd.) in Oakland’s Laurel District. The free, all-ages summer solstice performance runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and invites the community to experience the vibrant sounds of African psych rock in an intimate neighborhood setting.
Presented by the Laurel District Association, the annual Live in The Laurel series showcases outstanding locally based musicians while celebrating the businesses, culture, and creative energy of Oakland’s Laurel neighborhood. Concertgoers are encouraged to dine, shop, and explore along MacArthur Boulevard before and after the show.
Led by internationally acclaimed vocalist and bandleader Mariam Diakité, Orchestra Gold blends traditional West African rhythms with psychedelic rock, soul, and blues influences to create a powerful cross-cultural sound. Their unplugged performance promises an immersive and intimate interpretation of the band’s celebrated live energy.
“Live in The Laurel is about bringing people together through music while supporting local businesses and creating joyful, accessible cultural experiences in the neighborhood,” said organizers with the Laurel District Association. “Orchestra Gold Unplugged will deliver a unique performance that reflects the creativity and diversity that make Oakland so special.”
Oakland’s Laurel District welcomes visitors to discover everything from locally owned cafés, restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and wellness studios to neighborhood markets and specialty shops. This highly walkable commercial corridor also features a self-guided mural tour. The Laurel is a destination where one can shop local, dine global, and connect with the community through arts and culture.
This edition of Live in The Laurel is part of Make Music Day, an annual celebration of music which takes place on June 21 to coincide with Summer Solstice. On Music Day, the Laurel community and visitors are urged to play music outside, along MacArthur Boulevard or in the district’s public spaces and parks.
The 2026 LITL series runs monthly from April through October at rotating venues throughout the Laurel District, highlighting an eclectic mix of genres and local talent. New this year, youth and student performers open each concert at 7 p.m., further strengthening the series’ commitment to nurturing emerging artists.
