For our February edition of Live at Our Place, we bring two acts that mix jazz with other music genres that get original sounds. Blending jazz, classical and pop, MaNiLa’s music is inspired by the zoological concept of “Foreṡìa”, a form of parasitism observed in certain organisms that use others to transport themselves. Later, The Knitters trio presents a sound influenced by the great piano-less trios and the major figures of jazz tradition, with a strong inclination toward integrating a modern perspective in both composition and improvisation.
ABOUT MaNiDa
MaNiDa is an Italian quartet formed with the goal of creating an original and personal sound without the use of harmonic instruments and blending jazz, classical, and pop influences. Their music is characterised by intricate melodic intertwining that alternates between episodes of melodic counterpoint with moments that recall choral harmonies. The diverse musical personalities and influences of the group members come together to conceive creative compositions that, along with an engaging performance, contribute to an immersive and captivating listening experience.
Band members: Martina Effy Bergonzoni (vocals), Niccolò Zanella (tenor saxophone), Matteo Padoin (double bass), and Daniele (Patton on drums)

ABOUT KNITTERS
The Knitters trio presents a sound influenced by the great piano-less trios and the major figures of jazz tradition, with a strong inclination toward integrating a modern perspective in both composition and improvisation. Their deep passion for mainstream tradition and the contemporary New York jazz scene drives the trio to swiftly move from traditional stylistic forms and harmonic structures into moments of free improvisation, seeking the purest interaction between the three instruments. Rhythmically, the typical swing pulse plays an important role in their compositions, though it is often masked by polyrhythms, accompanied by broken time, or punctuated by sections featuring Latin grooves or even eighths.
The trio’s debut album, KNITTERS, has been released in March 2024 under the Swedish label TengTones.
Band members: Niccolò Zanella (tenor saxophone), Matteo Padoin (double bass), Daniele Patton (drums)
