A weekly specialist teaching class and free Stay and Play group for children with Down Syndrome aged 0-5 years.
About this Event

For those who want the benefit of direct input for their child, this is a weekly Little Achievers teaching class with a focus on early skills in the areas of literacy, numeracy, fine motor skills, physical development and communication. The teaching class content will vary from week to week and will depend on the age and ability of the children. Teaching sessions are aimed at ages 1 - 5 years. The regular frequency of classes allows children to maximise their learning. In other words, we want to help your children learn as much as possible!

Teaching sessions will take place with our specialist teacher, Sandra Redman. The first week of term for any new children will be an assessment week for Sandra to meet with you and discuss your child's current stage of development and their history. Once the assessment is complete, your child will be allocated a place in a class, usually in a small group of a maximum of 3-4 children at a set time each week. Before and after your teaching class, you and your child are welcome to join the Stay and Play playgroup.

Our optional, free 'Stay and Play' sessions are for children aged 0-5yrs take place between 10am-12pm each Thursday on which classes are running. This provides an opportunity for you to meet face-to-face with other parents and for your children to socialise. The Stay and Play sessions also include a Sing and Sign session (using Makaton).

As part of the Little Achievers group, there will be opportunities for all families to have appointments with private therapists (OT, physio and SALT) during the term, for the therapists to provide guidance and advice, and to answer parent/carer questions.

Sessions will take place on the following dates:
