About this Event
Literature in Translation Book Group with Mandy and Maritza
Discussing All Our Yesterdays by Natalia Ginzburg, translated by Angus Davidson
Led by Greenlight booksellers Mandy and Maritza, our Literature in Translation Book Group meets monthly to discuss books from around the world, with a particular focus on marginalized voices and indie presses.
For January, our (inaugural) book group pick is All Our Yesterdays, written by Natalia Ginzburg and translated from Italian by Angus Davidson. Set in a small town in northern Italy, All Our Yesterdays follows the marriage of young, pregnant Anna and older, eccentric Cenzo Rena—a family friend she weds to save her reputation. Touched by tragedy and grace, their relationship runs parallel to the war and encroaching threat of fascism—and in their wake, a society dealing with anxiety and grief. With her signature clear-eyed wit, Ginzburg asks how we can act with integrity when faced with catastrophe, and how we can love well.
