This training has been developed to support those who work with AAC users in developing their literacy skills.
About this Event

This course is intended for SENCOs and teachers working with individuals using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). It maps across to IPAACKS Level Three (please see further information on CASEE Eventbrite profile).

The training will include:

  • How to consider pupils’ communication needs.
  • How to incorporate AAC into your existing practice to facilitate development, learning and participation across your school.
  • Literacy – how use of AAC fits with literacy.
  • Emergent literacy interventions for AAC users.
  • Conventional literacy interventions for AAC users.
  • Time to look at and use resources to support AAC users with their literacy.
  • Networking opportunity to meet and link with other professionals who teach powered AAC users.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a full day course and will be delivered in person at the Clinical School at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. Further details, including a map, will be sent out prior to the day.

Car parking on the hospital site can be difficult and you are not guaranteed to get a space. It is also very expensive to park onsite, see link:

https://www.ncp.co.uk/find-a-car-park/car-parks/cambridge-addenbrookes-hospital/. It is therefore recommended that you make use of the nearby Park & Rides to access the site. The two nearest Cambridge Park & Ride sites to the hospitals are Babraham Road (1,458 parking spaces) and Trumpington (1,640 parking spaces), and these have the quickest and most direct routes to Campus. See the Park & Ride link for directions and information on costs: https://cambridgeparkandride.info/.

If there are any adjustments or support that we can provide to make this training more accessible to you, please let us know.

If this course becomes oversubscribed priority will be given to professionals working in the East of England.

If you have any questions about this training, please contact us on 01223 349401 or [email protected].
