FREE Quiet, sensory-friendly 90's hip-hop headphone listening session: crafts, retro gaming, CD's, Tapes, Vinyl appreciation & no small talk
About this Event

FREE EVENT: As part of Autism Awareness Month, Quiet Qulture® & DIAXPORA® Recordings, in association with Ealing Libraries, invite you to — a relaxed, sensory-friendly analogue music listening session hosted by DJ Tear Bear & Dio. This is a quiet, introvert-friendly library event where talking is optional, not required — a space to relax, settle in, and enjoy the music at your own pace.

Bring your own wired 3.5mm jack headphones if you have a favourite pair, or use the headphones we’ll have ready for you. Even the gaming stays in headphones, so we keep the peace in the library while still delivering that crisp, hi-fi, retro golden-era hip-hop and R&B feel.

Guests are welcome to sit back and listen, read, make collage, or hyperfocus on their own craft project in a calm room with good people and good energy. We’ll also have quiet talking spaces if you want to connect, but the vibe is less talk, no small talk, more listening. If you need a bit of stimulation, there may be some retro gaming on Super Nintendo — always through headphones, never disturbing the room.

We’ll be deep listening to , a seminal jazz-rap classic that helped set the blueprint for hip-hop, plus a second surprise album from the same era. The goal is to listen deeply, no skips, and appreciate each record as a full body of work.

We love physical media too, so feel free to bring your favourite cassettes, CDs, or vinyl to share. We’d love to flip through the cover art, inlays, and liner notes with you.

This is a small, seated gathering with a maximum of 10 guests, keeping the space warm, intimate, and comfortable for anyone who prefers a gentler, less crowded atmosphere.

Autism Awareness Month celebrates neurodiversity, including heightened sensitivity to sound and the deep focus many autistic people bring to their special interests.

Accessibility information: Ealing Central Library, located in the Ealing Broadway Centre, is wheelchair accessible with step-free access and lifts to the first-floor main library and upper mezzanine level. Although there is a hearing loop in the library, this particular event isn't hearing loop accessible due to technical incapabilities. We are working on this for future events. Thank you for your patience.

The event will accomodate 10 people in a small room glass walled room which has a maximum capacity of 25 people.
Sound isolating headphones will be provided however if you have your own that you prefer to wear, ensure it has a 3.5mm jack and bring them along. We should be able to plug them in to our sound system so you can enjoy the headphones you already know and love.

Please book your seat before they run out. We have limited space and operate on a first come, first served basis.

This event is only suitable for ages 16 and over. We may ask for ID and reserve the right to refuse entry.
If you arrive before 6pm we recommend you take a quiet look around the library and feel free to bring a book up to read or flick through whilst you enjoy the deep listening session. Maybe you can find a book on Hip-Hop!!
