In a spin….music that moves. An evening of sound that goes round and round yet never repeats itself. Ray will play a series of recordings from some of his works that feature rotating and moving sound as well excerpts from some of the historical precedents of rotated sound. He will also play some extracts from works that have inspired him and from some of his pieces that stay reasonably still…Ray Lee is an award-winning sound artist and composer. His immersive and mesmerising works aim to make sound art accessible and engaging for a wide audience. In 2021 his monumental installation/performance project Points of Departure was premiered at Shoreham Port for the Brighton Festival. His latest work The Invention of Wonder, premiered at the historic Holywell Music Room in Oxford in 2024. His work has been shown in over 30 countries across four continents. About Listen Club
A programme of unusual sound-works, soundscape composition, and music from the present and the past, chosen by Sound Art Brighton artists and invited guests.
Listen club is all about coming together to listen to music with the possibility of sharing impressions and casual discussion afterwards. Listen Club hopes to provide a counterpoint to the quick paced personal consumption of music with a more patient shared experience; a deep listen, together, in order to foster community.
Curators will guide the experience - briefly discussing the details of the selections and providing background on the music and artists chosen. We aim to present a variety of styles and listening experiences that may include anything from long duration singular sound works to a series of work on a particular theme. On average we will listen together for 45min to an hour, with time for discussion and conversation afterwards.
Once a month, 7-9pm, at The Rose Hill
