About this Event
About this workshop
As psychotherapist we often work with clients who experienced trauma in their childhood or adolescence. Sometimes we get involved early on, but at other times these traumatic experiences are first worked with in adulthood or even in later years.
In this workshop we will look at the lifelong resilience process after experiencing trauma as a young person, from both theoretical and clinical application viewpoints. In terms of theory, we will look at the three waves of resilience research: the static, resilience qualities or protective factors; the more dynamic, developmental view of the second wave’s resilience process; and regarding resilience as an innate force that helps us face and overcome adversity.
We will also relate the theory to clinical application, particularly to one of the most and longest researched traumatised groups, the child survivors of the Holocaust. We will look at their lifelong adaptive journey to see what typical resilience tasks the survivors had to face to survive the trauma and then to regain competence at each period of their lifetime. Also, we will examine the psychotherapeutic treatments that were, or could be useful for the survivors to meet the identified resilience tasks.
