Level 1 Food Hygiene & Safety Certificate Online

This Level 1 Food Hygiene and Safety course will help you to recognise your food hygiene responsibilities so that you can act conscientiously and demonstrate to customers that you and your business take food safety seriously. By taking this training, you will develop a strong foundational knowledge of food hygiene practices and food safety law, and show that you strive to follow best practice and are proud to do so - something that will give your customers great confidence in your business.

Aims of the course
By the end of this course, you will:
  • Understand the importance of food hygiene and safety and recognise the ill-health issues that poor food hygiene can cause.
  • Understand what the law says about food safety and what you need to do to comply.Be able to identify food safety hazards and know how to prevent them from causing contamination of food.
  • Recognise the importance of maintaining good standards of personal hygiene, including handwashing.
  • Understand why it's so important to thoroughly clean the work premises, work equipment and/or work vehicles.

C ourse Content

1 Introduction to Food Hygiene Who is this course for, what is food safety, food hygiene law and the importance of food safety.

2 Food Safety Hazards Microbiological hazards, allergenic hazards, physical hazards, chemical hazards and the 4 Cs.3 The 4 Cs: Cleaning The importance of cleanliness, the six stages of cleaning, cleaning and disinfection, clean as you go, dishwashers, cleaning schedules and waste management.

4 The 4 Cs: Cooking and Chilling Temperature control, food deliveries, refrigeration, low and high-risk foods, use by dates and best before dates, and stock rotation (FIFO).

5 The 4 Cs: Cross-Contamination Ill-health caused by food contaminants, what is cross-contamination, preventing cross-contamination, pest control, HACCP and workplace procedures.

6 Personal Hygiene Hand hygiene, further hygiene considerations, protective clothing, reporting illness and first aid.

Assessment

The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 20 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked automatically so that you’ll instantly know whether you passed. If you don't pass don't worry! You can take the test as many times as you need.


Who should take this course?

This Level 1 Food Hygiene and Safety course is designed for workers who are not directly involved with the preparation or handling of high-risk foods but work in an environment where food is present or handled elsewhere. This also includes those who work with wrapped or pre-packaged foods. For example:

Front of house employees.

Checkout staff.

Waiters.

Bar workers.

Food delivery drivers and riders.

Kitchen porters.

Low-risk food retailers (e.g. newsagents, sweet shops).

Warehouse staff.

If your role involves directly handling or preparing food, then you need to take Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety (available for retail, catering, and manufacturing) in order to comply with food handlers’ legal obligations.
