ATTENTION QUEER ARTISTS AND ALLIES IN DALLAS THEATER: This is for you. Let’s Make a Queer Fanta-Zine! is a community-centered gathering rooted in hope, radical imagination, and artist empowerment. The offering will begin with a brief conversation between Kat Lozano, AMOC Artist-in-Residence, and Samantha Calatozzo Cobb, Artistic & Executive Director of Plague Mask Players, including a short introduction to zine-making and a discussion of how Samantha has incorporated more inclusive practices within her theatre company.
Participants will then create their own zines while reflecting on their lived experiences, imagining new possibilities for casting, exploring what equitable practice can look like both individually and collectively, and crafting shared statements that celebrate expansiveness in theatre.
A zine is a self-published, non-commercial print work, typically produced in small batches and often made and bound by hand. Zines have long been used as tools for storytelling, resistance, and community-building.
Some of the questions we’ll explore include: What would a theatre season curated entirely by queer and trans artists look like? What do you wish casting notices understood about you? What does safety in artistic spaces mean to you?
Artists of all disciplines and identities are welcome, with intentional centering of queer and trans artists and artists of color.
