About this Event
Please bring and share the objects and stories that have shaped your lesbian lives: letters, postcards, jewellery, mix tapes, media, books, posters, gig tickets. We’ll discuss our places in lesbian history and also make new objects and stories from those memories. In return, we ask you to donate these artworks to Lesbian Voices of Plymouth CIC for its archive and for future use in exhibitions. We will deposit digital versions of these (photographs) to The Box to store in the Pride in our Past LGBTQ+ archive. This will ensure that lesbian histories remain in community archives and are also looked after in formal archives.
This workshop is part of Ruby Nation (Lesbian Voices of Plymouth CIC) and Angela Piccini’s (University of Plymouth/ButCH/37 Looe Street Gallery) Lesbians in the Attic project, funded by a University of Plymouth Get Involved Award and supported by The Box. We’re exploring how to make lesbian histories more visible in archives, looking at ways to shape archival practices to ensure communities can locate their heritage in these spaces, and creating new materials for future exhibitions.
We're providing food and you'll be compensated for your time (£25)
Anyone who self-identifies as a lesbian or lesbian ally is welcome!
There are 2 workshop dates to choose from: either 21 or 28 Feb
