Summary:
In this session, employment lawyers, Sarah Wimsett and Courtney Janotta will provide an overview of the law relating to religious and philosophical belief discrimination. They will draw on their experience in the law to provide insights as to how to manage religious and philosophical beliefs in the workplace including balancing differing or conflicting beliefs, as well as providing practical guidance for putting the theory into practice.
Outcomes:
· Develop a deeper understanding of the law around discrimination on the grounds of religious or philosophical beliefs
· Have greater awareness about how to manage and balance conflicting rights in workplace
· Understand the duty on employers to take steps to prevent discrimination on the grounds of religion or beliefs

Facilitator
Sarah Wimsett is a Senior Associate in the Employment Team at Bevan Brittan and advises on all employment law matters within the Healthcare sector. The majority of Sarah’s practice is focused on employment litigation and particularly complex whistleblowing and discrimination matters which regularly include multiple parties. Sarah regularly advises on complex disciplinary and capability issues involving doctors which often overlap with issues relating to whistleblowing. Sarah also has particular expertise in industrial action.
· Courtney Janotta is a Senior Associate in the Employment Team at Bevan Brittan and advises on all employment law matters. She is a go-to expert on high profile advisory and litigation matters involving complex gender identities and religious and philosophical belief discrimination. Courtney is regularly instructed to undertake EDI projects including training on key issues such as menopause, neurodiversity, complex gender identities, religious and philosophical belief discrimination and disability discrimination.
