Join us for a mind-bending evening as magician, former neuroscientist, and veteran science educator Luigi Anzivino reveals what’s really happening in your brain when you’re fooled by a magician, scammer, or even a politician.
Blending live magic with clear, accessible science, this highly interactive lecture will explore how attention, perception, and cognitive shortcuts can be cleverly exploited to deceive us. You’ll discover why it’s often the smartest people who are most easily fooled, and how naturally occurring “loopholes” in our thinking make magic—and manipulation—possible.
Grounded in real neuroscience and supported by live demonstrations, Luigi’s unique perspective comes from over a decade of performing smart, sophisticated magic and 20 years as a science educator and experience designer at San Francisco’s Exploratorium science museum.
