🧠Lecture: "The Musical Roots of Rock'n'Roll"
🎤 Speaker: Prof. Delvyn Case
Join us for a captivating evening as Prof. Delvyn Case traces the surprising and soulful musical roots of rock’n’roll. Far from appearing overnight in the 1950s, rock grew out of a rich blend of gospel, blues, country, rhythm and blues, and jazz traditions—styles created and shaped largely by Black American musicians.
Prof. Case will guide us through the sounds, stories, and social forces that gave birth to rock, highlighting key songs, artists, and musical innovations that transformed popular music. You’ll come away hearing classic rock not as an isolated genre, but as part of a much deeper and more complex musical lineage.
Prof. Delvyn Case is a composer, conductor, and scholar whose work explores the intersections of popular music, history, and culture. An engaging educator and accomplished musician, he brings recordings, analysis, and vivid storytelling together to make music history come alive.
