🧠Lecture: "The Scientific Search for Life Beyond Earth"
🎙️ Speaker: Research Scientist, Tori Hoehler
Humanity has wondered for centuries whether we are alone in the cosmos. Now, after decades of advances in space exploration, we are poised as never before to investigate this question with scientific rigor.
In this talk, retired NASA astrobiologist Tori Hoehler will guide us through the most promising places to search for life beyond Earth: Mars, the “Ocean Worlds” of the outer solar system, and planets orbiting other stars, known as exoplanets. Learn what makes these worlds such compelling targets for life detection—and why they may be reluctant to yield their secrets.
We’ll peek under the hood at the cutting-edge methods and mission concepts being developed to investigate these environments and to advance humanity’s understanding of our place in the universe.
Tori recently retired after 27 years as a research scientist in the Space Science and Astrobiology Division at NASA Ames Research Center, where he led the Center for Life Detection and helped define science objectives for NASA’s Mars Program and outer solar system missions, including the Europa Clipper mission.
