🧠Lecture: "The Philosophies of 1984: Doublethink, Politics, Control"
🎤 Speaker: PhD candidate, Alexandra Stamson
Join us for a timely exploration of George Orwell’s 1984 and its unsettling resonance in 2026. Philosopher Alexandra Stamson will unpack themes of truth, mis- and disinformation, contemporary “doublethink,” and the political forces that shape what we are allowed to know.
Using a philosophical lens, Alexandra will compare the society engineered by Orwell’s Party with our own, asking what happens when information and truth are controlled by the few to govern the many. She’ll guide us through how social, political, and technological pressures can distort our understanding of ourselves, each other, and the world.
Alexandra Stamson is a lecturer and PhD candidate in Philosophy at the University of Connecticut, a lecturer at SUNY Purchase, and a resident lecturer at Lectures on Tap in NYC. With advanced degrees in Philosophy and Gender Studies, her work in feminist epistemology and media examines how environments and narratives shape identity and understanding.
