📚 Lecture: “The Evolution of Natural Toxins”
🎤 Speaker: Professor Noah Whiteman, UC Berkeley
Join us for a riveting evening with Professor Noah Whiteman as he uncovers the deadly secrets that reside within our spice racks, medicine cabinets, and gardens. By scratching beneath the surface of everyday substances like coffee beans, peppers, and even apple seeds, we reveal a fascinating array of chemicals that influence our lives in profound ways.
In this enlightening lecture, Dr. Whiteman will explore why microbes, plants, mushrooms, and animals produce such chemicals and delve into how humans have come to use and, at times, abuse them. Drawing from cutting-edge research in evolution, chemistry, and neuroscience, he will discuss the origins of toxins, the evolutionary arms race between organisms, and how this dynamic has shaped both the natural world and human history.
Professor Noah Whiteman is a Professor of Genetics, Genomics, Evolution and Development at UC Berkeley. His innovative research involves using CRISPR gene editing to replay evolution, shedding light on how life has adapted over millions of years. His book, Most Delicious Poison, traces the journey of toxins through history, revealing how substances that can K*ll are also tied to our humanity.
Don’t miss this chance to view the world through a new lens with Professor Noah Whiteman!
