📚 Lecture: “Space Movies: What Hollywood Gets Right vs. Wrong”
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Niall Whiteford
Have you ever wondered how accurately Hollywood portrays space travel and the mysteries of the universe? Join us for a stimulating evening with Dr. Niall Whiteford as he explores the fascinating world of space movies, diving into both the triumphs and missteps of cinematic storytelling.
From the scientifically plausible to the outright implausible, Dr. Whiteford will guide us through various films, examining what they get right about physics, exploration, and humanity's quest beyond our planet. Through his analysis, you'll gain insights into the creative liberties filmmakers take and how those choices impact our understanding of space.
Dr. Niall Whiteford is an astrophysicist who completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh before joining the American Museum of Natural History. His research utilizes data from the James Webb Space Telescope to study weather phenomena on alien worlds. Passionate about detecting life beyond our solar system, he is, unsurprisingly, an avid consumer of Sci-Fi movies!
Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the cosmos through film with Dr. Niall Whiteford!
