🧠Lecture: "How To Build a Dictator: US Intervention in Latin America"
🎙️ Speaker: Cillian Dunne
Join us for a gripping evening as investigative author Cillian Dunne takes you inside the rise and fall of Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega—and the covert U.S. decisions that helped build him.
While living in Panama with Noriega’s right-hand man, Dunne traveled back roads and remote towns to uncover original DEA and U.S. Justice Department files that had been hidden for decades, many of which now appear in his book, The Right Hand Man.
In this fast-paced, firsthand talk, Dunne reveals how the United States cultivated Noriega as an asset during the Cold War, then turned on him when he became a liability. He draws clear connections between those secret decisions and intervention patterns that still shape Latin America today.
Cillian Dunne is an Irish author whose reporting has taken him deep inside hidden intelligence networks and into direct contact with central figures in Cold War covert operations. His work has been featured in The Sunday Times, The Boston Globe, The Sunday World, and The Irish Sun.
