🧠Lecture: "Feelings, Facts, and the Art of Persuasion"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Keegan Lannon
Join us for an engaging evening as Dr. Keegan Lannon explores how our emotions, values, and identities shape the way we persuade and are persuaded. For over two millennia, ever since Aristotle wrote one of the first handbooks on persuasion, logic and rationality have been treated as the gold standard of effective argument.
This talk will examine how recent rhetorical theories have challenged that assumption, revealing the powerful role that feelings and other non-rational appeals play in everyday discourse—from politics and advertising to social media and personal conversations. Dr. Lannon will unpack how these new perspectives can help us better understand the messages we encounter and craft more effective, ethical arguments of our own.
Dr. Keegan Lannon is a lecturer at the University of Illinois – Chicago, where he teaches classes on rhetoric and comic books, bringing together popular culture and critical theory in the classroom.
