📚 Lecture: “Elvis, Influence, and American Politics”

🎤 Speaker: Professor, Dr. Tom Rizzuto

While Elvis Presley was never considered a political artist, his meteoric rise to fame is deeply intertwined with the political landscape of 20th century America. Join Dr. Tom Rizzuto as he explores Elvis's complex relationship with politics, from civil rights to government censorship, and how he became a significant figure during the Cold War era.

Despite the lack of overt political messaging in his music and public persona, Elvis found himself at the center of key historical moments, sometimes as a willing participant and sometimes as an unsuspecting pawn. Dr. Rizzuto will share insights into Elvis’s famous and bizarre encounter with President Richard Nixon and how the King of Rock 'n' Roll learned to navigate and manipulate the political arena.

Dr. Tom Rizzuto is a professor of music history, guitar, and media at Molloy University and SUNY Old Westbury. With a background in music education and musicology, his research focuses on the intersections between music and cultural shifts.

Don’t miss this opportunity to discover the hidden political dimensions of Elvis Presley!
