About this Event
Imagine a big, old, and wrinkled envelope in your hand; in it, a photocopy of a handwritten composition for oboe and piano. The name and address of the composition’s recipient are written elegantly and beautifully in curved handwriting, and the title page is illustrated with enigmatic and almost childlike drawings. Stencilled on the manuscript is the composer’s name: Louis Andriessen.
Head of Winds Joost Flach and Senior Lecturer of Keyboard Studies Nicholas Ong present a lecture-recital showcasing solo and chamber works by the Andriessen family of musicians, who were pivotal in shaping the musical outlook of the Netherlands and elevating it to an international stature. The programme also features a youthful composition for oboe and piano by Zechariah Goh Toh Chai, Head of Composition and recipient of the NAC’s 2003 Young Artist Award.
