This lecture focuses on the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris and explains its place in the history of France. It explores the history of cathedrals, Gothic architecture, as well as the role of Viollet-le-Duc, his doctrine, and those of his successors. It also presents the Venice Charter and the Nara Document, in order to shed light on the restoration approach adopted for the first time in France at Notre-Dame.
Philippe Villeneuve is a French architect who, since 2013, has held the position of Chief Architect of Historic Monuments in France and is responsible for coordinating the restoration team of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
