For years, Will (Ben Foster) and his teenage daughter Tom (Thomasin McKenzie) have lived a perfect but mysterious existence off-grid in a beautiful nature reserve outside of Portland, Oregon. But when a small mistake tips them off to authorities, their idyllic life is shattered and both are put into social services. After clashing with their new surroundings, Will and Tom set off on an increasingly erratic journey in search of a place to call their own. Based on the novel Abandonment by Peter Rock.
