How well do you understand your own emotions? Which feelings come easily, and which ones feel distant, confusing, or hard to name?
In this reflective and practical workshop, professional counselor and supervisor Dr. Hui-Shiang Chao guides participants in exploring how emotions are formed, shaped, and expressed. We will examine how family, culture, and life experiences influence the way we respond to emotions, especially difficult ones such as sadness, anger, or emotional overwhelm.
In this workshop, you will:
🩵 Build greater awareness of your emotional patterns and responses
🩵 Learn how emotions are shaped by family, culture, and environment
🩵 Recognize common but unhealthy ways of coping with difficult emotions
🩵 Apply more compassionate, non-judgmental ways of responding to your feelings
🩵 Reflect on your emotional needs and how to express them in healthier ways
This session offers a supportive space for self-reflection, understanding, and learning practical principles to emotional management in everyday life.

This workshop is part of Through My Eyes, a free, immersive mental health art exhibition running from March 13–23, presented by the Community Services Center in collaboration with Valerie Tsai. Featuring 50 anonymous stories and artworks from across Taiwan, the exhibition weaves together personal storytelling, professional mental health resources, and free bilingual workshops to foster empathy, reflection, and open conversations around mental well-being.
