Introduction to English Paper Piecing: Hand Quilting with Precision and Creativity
Workshop Description:
Discover the relaxing, portable and beautifully precise art of English Paper Piecing (EPP) in this hands-on beginner-friendly workshop. Perfect for both new and experienced quilters, EPP is a traditional hand-quilting technique that uses paper templates to create crisp, accurate shapes—most famously hexagons—that can be combined into endless patterns.
In this workshop, you’ll learn:
- The basics of English Paper Piecing
- How to prepare fabric and paper templates
- Techniques for basting by hand (thread or glue basting)
- Methods for joining pieces with nearly invisible stitches
- Tips for designing your own patterns and choosing fabrics
- How small EPP units can be transformed into larger quilt blocks, wall hangings, or accessories
Through guided instruction, you’ll complete your first set of stitched shapes—such as classic hexagon “flowers”—and leave with the skills and confidence to continue your project at home. Whether you’re drawn to slow stitching, want a portable craft or hope to add a charming handmade touch to your quilting practice, this workshop offers a warm, creative introduction to the world of English Paper Piecing.
No prior quilting experience required. All materials provided.
