Listening can lift the load when someone’s struggling. Samaritans' workshop introduces skills to support people in distress.
About this Event

About this event

Being listened to - really listened to - has a profound effect on how you feel. Feeling heard can lift the load when you are struggling and it can help you to think more clearly. If you can listen when someone is in distress or needs to talk about something difficult - it can be life changing.

Being a good listener is a skill that can be taught. It’s a skill we can all use every day and it improves with practice. Samaritans trains its volunteers to listen to people in profound emotional distress, including talking to people when they are suicidal. These workshops will introduce you to those skills. The workshops will:

  • Build recognition that suicide is not inevitable
  • Introduce the key Samaritans’ listening tool
  • Give a chance to practice and develop the confidence to help others feel supported and heard.
  • Build understanding of how to spot when someone is struggling and how to follow up.

The workshops are part of Brighton & Hove Albion FC contribution to the Premier League's ‘Together Against Suicide' campaign, aimed at raising awareness of suicide; reducing the stigma around suicide; and increasing the help-seeking behaviours of fans.

BHAFC have terms and conditions for visitors to their grounds – please see visitor terms and conditions. By booking a ticket you are acknowledging that you agree these terms and conditions.
