Ashtanga yoga is a counted system — every breath and coordinated movement accounted for. Each posture has an ideal number of inhales and exhales for moving into and out of it, and traditionally those vinyasa are counted in Sanskrit.Learning the count helps focus the mind, holds the rhythm of your practice, and connects you more deeply to the structure of the sequence. Once you know it, you always know where you are.
What we'll cover:
1. Why the count exists and what it does for your practice
2. Sanskrit numbers 1–17
3. The full vinyasa count for Sun Salutations, standing postures & beginning of the seated sequence
4. Pattern recognition in the standing sequence — learn the pattern once, apply it across multiple postures
This workshop is open to all levels. You'll leave with printed resources to help you apply what you learned — whether that's in your home practice or in class.
