About this Event

Summer Teen Fiction Filmmaking Program for ages 12-17

Join us for our Winter Teen Animation Program in Washington D.C. for both those just starting and those with experience taught by our professional animator. Get ready to unleash your creativity and learn the art of 2D drawn and digital animation, including how to make a short film.

Everyone works both individually and in teams on equipment provided by DCIFF. You will learn how to use easily available online animation tools, set up space to film and produce a small final film that everyone has contributed to. Don't think you can draw? Not a problem - you will learn hw to animate figures anyway.

This in-person course offers a fantastic opportunity for young creators aged 12-18 to explore their passion for storytelling through art, drawing, collage and film. You will also have a unique chance to meet interesting professionals and see how they work. Our teaching team has a wealth of experience in filmmaking and we know students love our program!

Includes:

  • Learn essential tools and techniques – flip books and intro to character animation
  • Digital 2D animation skills
  • Producing a final short film
  • Equipment: Provided, but if you have your own a laptop or tablet / pencils and paper for drawing, do bring!
  • Requirements: NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - WE WILL WORK WITH YOU AT YOUR LEVEL. This can be a drop-in experience but please commit to the full 9 weeks to really benefit. The program includes attendance at the 2026 Y-CAM High School FIlm Festival on March 12th.

Venue is one block from Eastern Market Metro (Blue/Orange/Silver lines) in a safe facility.
Cost: FREE for all the participants after a non-returnable $55(DC residents) / $75 (non DC residents) registration fee to cover snacks and incidentals. Once you have signed up here, we will get in touch to have you fill in our form. Once admitted, you will be asked to pay the registration fee and secure your place in the program. This program is supported by OST.

Maximum Participants: 15 slots
