About this Event
Come and join LEAN and Spread the Word to find out more about the campaign to make Lewisham, the UK’s first Borough of Literature and how your school could be involved!
We will also be joined by Tabitha Hayward, New Writers and Participation Producer at the Royal Court Theatre who will be sharing information about the inaugral Young Playwrights Award open to 13-18 yr olds living in London.
The meeting will be an opportunity to have a conversation about and help shape what a Borough of Literature could look like for children, young people and teachers in Lewisham. Some of the things we would love to talk to you about are:
- How you may already be working with local writers, poets and spoken word artists in your school;
- What your priorities are in terms of literacy, writing and reading for your children and young people;
- What types of creative writing and reading projects you would like to see happen and what the barriers are to them taking place.
As part of the session you’ll meet our guest poet, take part in creative writing exercises and hear them read from their work.
Arrive, tea, coffee and register 4pm
Meeting starts 4.30pm
Meeting ends 6.15pm
Based at The Albany in Deptford, Spread the Word is London’s literature development agency, a charity and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. Our mission is to help London’s underrepresented writers get their work into the world and connect communities to words and stories. We run the annual Deptford Literature Festival, the Young Writers Collective and community-based projects across Lewisham.
Don't miss out on this chance to connect and collaborate.
