About this Event
On October 22nd, 2024, the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation, in partnership with the DC Fire and EMS/IAFF Local 36 Peer Support Team, will host a leadership forum with Dr. Thom Mayer. Dr. Mayer has been a leader in times of crisis for over 25 years, navigating some of the most significant challenges imaginable. He is the Medical Director for the NFL Players Association, as well as an emergency physician-sports medicine leader of international renown. He served as the Command Physician at the Pentagon Rescue/Recovery Operation on 9/11, Incident Commander for the inhalational anthrax outbreak in Washington, DC that same year, and led a Team Rubicon Mobile Emergency Team in Ukraine following the outbreak of war. Discussion points will include leading in crisis, trauma & emergency care, and the role of leadership in addressing burnout and resiliency. The intended audience is firefighters, police officers, mental health professionals, and health care providers from the National Capitol Region.
Dr. Mayer will speak on his unprecedented experience from the NFL Players Association to the Pentagon on 9/11 and his deployment to Ukraine, embracing leadership not as a distant accolade, but as an ever-present action to be woven into the fabric of daily life.
This event is possible through FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety Grants and our host, Children's National Hospital. Space is limited to the first 200 registered participants, and a networking lunch will immediately follow Dr. Mayers presentation.
