About this Event
Join us for a workshop at Topolski Studio exploring the poetry of language.
The idea is that each person will bring their chosen language, and use it to contribute to a collaborative collage poem. We are taking inspiration from Feliks Topolski’s existence as a multilingual artist, as well Macaronic verse (poetry written in more than one language).
Please bring: written materials in your chosen language, this could be your first or second language, the language you are learning or are interested in. To maximise our time together creating the poem, we encourage that you bring pre-cut words/phrases/small paragraphs/pages. We will provide the rest.
If you have chosen a language you do not know, be prepared to use google translate/word reference to find words and phrases to contribute!
Lines may start in one language, and end in another. Words and phrases may fit together neatly, or clash.
We may be pushed to choose words that we usually would not, and to let go of our initial intentions, as new meanings and interpretations arise from the input of others’ languages.
This will prompt interesting thoughts and discussion around how we each approach language, and the similarities and differences between our chosen languages.
Finally, this is a workshop for everyone! Whether you consider yourself a poet, or have never written a poem before, you are most welcome to join. All we ask is that you embrace a creative attitude towards language and help us make this a safe space for sharing ideas.
We offer inclusive pricing, ticket donations recommended £1-15 depending on what you feel you can afford. No questions asked :-)
The venue is wheelchair accessible.
