Dear friends,
We are thrilled to announce an upcoming FREE Lafayette event in Bristol, Rhode Island, to be held on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, at 10 am ET. This event will continue our Lafayette250 events in the Ocean State following our Pawtucket event last year, which was attended by Lt. Governor Sabina Matos.
Bristol is one of the sites where Lafayette encamped following the disastrous Battle of Newport in the summer of 1778. Lafayette was there from September 2-17, 1778. Together, in collaboration with the Bristol Preservation and Historical Society, we have secured a new Lafayette Trail marker to be installed, appropriately so, at Bristol's iconic Independence Park (419-459 Thames St, Bristol, RI 02809), on the waterfront.
The sign will be formally dedicated on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, at 10 am ET, on the northern end of the park in the presence of local officials and dignitaries. The ceremony will last approximately 45 minutes and include remarks from all the stakeholders involved in securing this new historic marker for Bristol.
We would like to thank the Bristol Preservation and Historical Society, in particular its director, Catherine Zipf, for her vocal support of this project. This new sign would literally not have happened without her. Our thanks also go out to the Rhode Island 250 Commission and the office of Secretary of State Gregg Amore for supporting the Lafayette Trail in Bristol and other locations throughout Rhode Island.
This new marker was donated by The Lafayette Trail, Inc. to the Town of Bristol with funding from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.
This event is entirely free and open to the public. To find out more about this event and other upcoming ones, please visit lafayette250.org/events. You can also send us an email at [email protected].
We look forward to seeing you in Bristol on Saturday, April 18th, 2026!
Best regards,
Julien Icher
