About this Event
Kundalini yoga works on the deepest level of your being to remove unconscious blocks and free constricted energy for deep healing and the expansion of consciousness. Using unique combinations of breath patterns (pranayama), mantra, and body postures (asana), kundalini yoga kriyas are designed to efficiently release emotional, energetic, and physical blockages. A typical class usually includes a kriya (postural set) and a meditation.
Classes vary greatly. Sometimes classes will be physically challenging and other times they will be more meditative. Olivia intuitively selects kriyas and meditations based on the energy of the group.
Please bring a yoga mat and water. Optional: meditation cushion and a scarf/shawl for meditation.
Location: We rent a studio in an artist commons on the second floor of the building. To enter, ring the doorbell if no one is in front. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before class time.
Parking: street parking is available but tricky. Public transportation is encouraged.
About Olivia Vargas:
I have been practicing kundalini yoga for over 10 years and teaching for 8 years. I studied kundalini yoga under Guru Singh, and I am currently studying Sat Nam Rasayan under SiriSimran Kaur Khalsa. I have a PhD in Jungian and archetypal psychology.
Throughout my teenage years and my early twenties I was wild with emotion–passion, rage, sadness–and succumbed to substances to numb it all away. When I was 19, someone once told me that I was the most self-destructive person they had ever met, while also being destructive to everyone around me. I was guarded and toxic…and in so much pain. I was plagued with depression, anxiety, and self-loathing.
Although I grew up in a “spiritual but not religious” household, all the “change your thinking, change your life” mantras couldn’t help me overcome the deep pain I felt inside. Then one day in my college apartment, I tried kundalini yoga on YouTube for the first time. Within ten minutes I fell to my knees and cried. I knew immediately that this was the thing that was going to change my life. I found an in-person class, and within months I was completely sober and alive with possibility. That was the beginning of a long journey of finding peace within myself and with others.
After a couple of years, I became a certified kundalini yoga instructor. I realized that many of my students were just like me–searching for another way to experience life. I also realized that many of my students were just like me in that they had unintegrated trauma. This inspired me to go back to school to get my PhD in Depth Psychology: Jungian and Archetypal Studies (psychology of the unconscious) to make my approach to spirit and psyche more effective.
