The Klein Party and South Hudson Music Project present Klezmer Starts Here!
A benefit for La Resistencia with Shpilkis and The Luz Bones.
La Resistencia is a grassroots organization led by undocumented immigrants and people of color who have been oppressed by the immigration enforcement system. Based in Washington State, they work to end the detention of immigrants and to stop deportations. La Resistencia is led by experts who know the system better than anyone; those who have been detained or have had relatives in deportation proceedings. They support and engage with people detained at the Northwest Detention Center organizing for their own survival and protesting against the detention and deportation regime. Their goal is to shut down the NWDC, and to end all detentions and deportations in Washington State.

Shpilkis is an 8-piece klezmer brass band from Seattle. Since forming in 2017, Shpilkis continues to transform potential into kinetic energy on dance floors at simkhas, festivals, clubs, holiday events, and block parties. Shpilkis create a chaotic, loose, and raucous soundscape, while also being organized and thoughtful. A fixture in the Yiddish music scene of the Pacific Northwest, Shpilkis brings the party to the local klezmer scene and Yiddishkayt to the party music scene alike.
Shpilkis includes Zimyl Adler (clarinet), Jimmy Austin (trombone), Layne Benofsky (euphonium), Stefanie Brendler (French horn & tenor horn), Michael Grant (trumpet), Nancy Hartunian (saxophones), Gary Luke (tuba) & Joey Ziegler (drums). https://www.shpilkisseattle.com/
The Luz Bones bring extensive experience playing klezmer, jazz, rock, country, and blues to explore fresh, contemporary versions of the klezmer repertoire.
The Luz Bones includes Darren Loucas (guitar), Mark Lutwak (accordion), Jonti Siman (bass), and Eric Eagle (drums).
Klezmer Starts Here! is a curated series in its third season at Seattle’s Royal Room featuring local and national klezmer musicians exploring the breadth and depth of Yiddish music.
