Come mellow out, meditate, make music and make friends at this fun and informal mantra meditation evening
About this Event

What it’s all about: Kirtan is a call and response musical meditation from the yoga tradition, considered the most potent form of meditation in this day and age. Singing these powerful transcendental sound vibrations together cleanses the heart and the mind of stress and anxiety and brings peace to the soul.

Come for a homemade plant-based dinner at the start of the program, made with love by our volunteer community. At 7pm, we’ll open our meditation with a guided breathing practice and a resonant mantra circle that takes you deep into a meditative space. Then, sing along with ancient healing mantras set to sweet tunes, and relax or move and dance as you feel inspired. At the end, we’ll have some time to integrate with sivasana and a sharing circle. Staying for the full container is extra powerful, but you’re welcome to arrive and leave as you need.

Beginners highly encouraged, all ages, voices and experiences welcome!

All the details:

Date & Time: Tuesday March 5th, 6-9PM

Address: 133 Southwest 2nd Avenue #300 Portland, OR 97204 United States.

Parking: There is street parking which is free after 7pm and some open air and covered parking lots nearby.

Public transport: Pause Meditation is just around the corner from the Blue Line at SW Oak and 1st.

Accessibility: The venue is ADA accessible (we’ll be on the third floor with an elevator and no stairs necessary).

Seating: We have a mixture of couches, folding chairs, meditation cushions and backchairs. No need to bring a yoga mat. If you aren’t comfortable sitting on the floor, please come on the earlier side to reserve a chair (you’re welcome to come as early as 6pm).

Food: We serve out dinner between 6:15-7pm. If you’d like a plate, please arrive in time to be done eating by 7pm. All our food is made and offered with love by our volunteer community. We serve dinner because we want people to be able to come right after work, because it’s a wonderful way to build community and because in the kirtan tradition sharing food that’s been offered with love (called prasadam) is a purifying, meditative activity. We cook plant-based, strictly vegetarian and usually vegan. We will always have vegan options.

How to support: A $10-20 suggested donation helps us cover the costs of the venue and food, as well as other ongoing costs, and is always deeply appreciated. If you’d like to pitch in with cooking, setup or any other aspect of the events, come find one of the organizers at the event and we’ll add you to our WhatsApp community!

Feel free to text Chay directly at 808.369.6320 with any additional questions.
