About this Event
Join us for a powerful night of storytelling, celebration, and community at the official launch of the Griots of Oakland Volume II! This long-awaited event will be held on Friday, November 8th, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Bloc15.
This event marks the culmination of an incredible journey undertaken by ten young Griots from McClymonds High School, who conducted over 80 interviews with Black males across Oakland. These rich, authentic stories have been compiled into a book that captures the strength, brilliance, and diversity of Black male experiences in our community.
At the launch, you'll hear firsthand from the students who created the book and the interviewees themselves, as they share personal reflections on this life-changing process. Highlights of the evening include a multimedia art exhibit powered by Black Terminus AR technology, where portraits come to life, as well as an exclusive screening of selected interviews.
Come for the stories, stay for the community. Whether you're interested in narrative change, storytelling, or simply celebrating Black voices, this is an event not to be missed. Light refreshments will be provided, and copies of The Griots of Oakland Volume II will be available for purchase.
