About this Event
Come along to the King St Book Club and join us for an evening of lively and in-depth discussion guided by Avid Reader Book Clubs host, Jennifer Stephens.
This month we'll read and discuss White Moss by Anna Nerkkagi. A poetic and fiercely moving Russian novel of tradition, change, and thwarted desire by an internationally celebrated writer from the Indigenous Nenets community of northern Siberia.
Deep in northern Siberia, minor human tragedies play out against the cold expanse of the tundra. With bursts of lyricism and a Chekhovian eye for human frailty, Anna Nerkagi crafts a multi-voiced drama of lost love and the clash between youthful dreams and the complex ties of home.
'In its rawness, its sense of an impending apocalypse and its heavy religious allegory, Nerkagi's fiction has few parallels in contemporary Russian literature' - New Statesman
This month we'll meet in the Library at Rydges Fortitude Valley and enjoy delicious food from bar gusto over our discussion of White Moss.
Current Book Club members will collect their book at our May meeting at bar gusto and new members will be able to elect to collect their book from Avid Reader in West End or to add postage of their book to their order.
